Staying hydrated, eating healthy, light meals, and exercising are things that we are always trying to be mindful of doing daily. And, there have been times when we get really busy and suddenly a few days or a whole week goes by where it seems like we’ve gotten a bit off track. It’s perfectly ok to treat yourself at times and when it’s planned, it somehow feels rewarding. However, when the extra processed foods and missed exercise sessions are from being too busy or just lacking motivation, a Body Reset is in order!

For this Recipe Friday, we are sharing our Raw Detox Salad, which is a really great detox meal to reset your diet. It does require a lot of chopping, but other than that, it’s really easy to make and so scrumptious!

RAW DETOX SALAD

AKA: ENERGY BOOSTING RESET SALAD

  • Garlic
  • Walnuts
  • Cauliflower

Dressing

  • Zest & juice from 1/2 a lemon
  • 1/4 tablespoon grated ginger

It is the perfect meal to get back on the healthy track and best of all, we made extra salad to have a healthy lunch option throughout the week.

This recipe is so easy to make and really hits the spot when you are following a strict detox diet but are craving something sweet and cookie-like. During our last 8 week challenge, we were doing fine until the sugar cravings started to rear its head. At first, we would satisfy the sugar cravings with a big bowl of fruit. Eventually, the fruit wasn’t doing the trick and we started talking about how much we wanted a cookie!

So, before we gave into our cookie cravings, we turned to our accountability group and asked if anyone could come up with something that could help. These banana pumpkin seed crisps made by @enjoifood were so easy to make and yummy! We gobbled the crisps up and made additional batches a few more times during those 8 weeks too! They definitely helped curb those cookie cravings…Success!

Besides the fact that these chewy crisps curbed our cravings. They also were filled with some healthy ingredients too!

Pumpkin Seeds: Alkaline forming seed that can reduce LDL cholesterol levels. High in protein and helps to reduce inflammation from arthritis. Prevents kidney stone formation, good for prostate health, promotes sleep, and filled with minerals.

Flax: Rich in Omega-3’s, these seeds may lower your blood pressure and decrease inflammation. Flax is extremely high in fiber, protects against colon cancer and breast cancer and improves blood sugar levels. Finally, it is also rich in essential oils that aid in healthy hair, eyes and skin.

Bananas: Gives you instant energy and powers your brain. They keep your bowels regular and help to scavenge harmful free radicals and to curb sugar cravings, fights depression and anxiety and reduces the risk of stroke. Ripe bananas with brown spots on the peel produce a substance called Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF) that helps to combat abnormal cells, which helps to fight cancer.

Recipe Friday – Hydrating, Detoxifying, Refreshing!

June 24, 2016

Watermelon-Coconut-Lime Refresher & Watermelon-Strawberry Salad

Watermelon Coconut

The first days of summer started with a heat wave and keeping hydrated became quite a challenge! It seemed natural to combine our favorite summer fruits; watermelon, strawberries, lime with coconut water superfood for the extra hydration needed. The watermelon-coconut-lime refresher and watermelon-strawberry salad are both so simple to make and the yet so healthy too!

Did you know that a well functioning renal system is important to keep your body in balance? With weak kidneys, your body can become prone to imbalances like high blood pressure,  thin skin, low back pain, loss of balance, and bladder issues. Hydration is important to strengthen the renal system and drinking and eating foods high in water content can help you stay hydrated. Both watermelon and strawberries have 92% water content. Watermelon and Coconut water are both alkalizing, cleansing and nourishing. We couldn’t seem to drink or eat enough of these foods over this past week and wanted to share our watermelon-coconut obsession with you.

Watermelon Benefits: High in antioxidants, vitamins and electrolytes, watermelon helps to cleanse the kidneys and helps the liver to process ammonia. The high Vitamin C and Vitamin A content helps to boost the body’s immunity and protect the skin and eyes and also helps to regulate PH levels, improves digestion and fights cancer.

Coconut Water Benefits: Coconut water is a true superfood and drinking 12 oz a day can help almost all of your body’s functions. It acts as a natural diuretic, aids kidney function, balances sugar levels, relieves constipation, boosts the immune system, prevents cancer, aids in hair growth, boosts energy levels, provides trace elements, balances hormones and feeds friendly bacteria in the gut. Make sure to use fresh coconut water from green coconuts or buy high quality coconut water! We love Harmless Harvest Coconut Water!

Must-Try Detox Facial

Paprika and Blueberry

Would you deliberately use a peel that causes your face to get really hot and red? It sounds crazy, but the Blueberry Detox Peel from Eminence Organics does just that and the result is skin that is fresh, glowing and younger looking!

HOT AND SPICY

This month we are focused on cleansing our insides with green smoothies, but now let’s take a look at how we can detox the outside as well. The Blueberry Detox Firming Peel is a natural exfoliating peel and, like many peels, it deep cleans pores and tones the skin. The highlight of this peel is the paprika, which is a naturally hot spice that definitely heats up your skin! Don’t worry; this is exactly the reaction that you want! Like exercising, the heat from paprika increases circulation to the skin, bringing fresh blood to the skin’s surface to give your skin that radiant glow. Increased blood flow also increases oxygen intake of the skin cells, which means that products applied after the peel will be absorbed better.

DO YOU DARE?

So, would you or wouldn’t you try this facial? We think that the temporary heat and redness is worth it and if you dare try it, this Detox Facial may just become your new fresh-faced beauty obsession!

CHECK OUT THE INGREDIENTS

  • Blueberry Juice: astringent; deep cleans pores, tightens and tones skin’s appearance
  • Raspberry Juice: high in vitamins and antioxidants to fight the appearance of visible signs of aging
  • Blackberry Juice: tightens the appearance of pores and is high in vitamins and Omega-3
  • Paprika: invigorates and revitalizes skin
